Blue Barn Farm was established in 1952 when Doyle and Philene David moved from Iowa to Colorado. Starting with just a sheep and a cow, they mortgaged these animals to purchase our first piece of farmland. Our journey began with growing Burbank potatoes, and we later expanded into the russet potato market. Through generations of dedication and innovation, we've grown into a leading agricultural producer in the San Luis Valley.
We embrace modern farming techniques and sustainable practices including water conservation, hydroponic systems, and drought-resistant crops. Our team continuously explores innovative solutions while maintaining our commitment to quality and environmental responsibility. We also adhere to strict food safety policies and implement farm-to-table opportunities.
We specialize in premium potato varieties, including Russets, and various grains. Our first crop was the flavorful Burbank variety, which laid the foundation for our success. Today, we deliver high-quality products across the United States and into Mexico.
Blue Barn Farm is currently led by Brett Deacon, continuing the family legacy. Our dedicated team includes farm manager Hunter Sessums, who has been with us for over 35 years, along with many loyal employees who return year after year, embodying our commitment to excellence and community.
Under Kelly Deacon's leadership in the late 1980s and early 1990s, we began introducing modern equipment and technology to enhance efficiency. Today, we continue to embrace technological innovations while maintaining our commitment to sustainable practices and quality production.
We remain committed to diversifying our operations, improving sustainability, and ensuring the next generation continues our proud tradition. We're actively exploring new opportunities in hydroponic systems, drought-resistant crops, and farm-to-table initiatives while maintaining our core values of quality and community.
